For Journeying
This is my new drumming C.D, this came about because I felt there needed to be a traditional drumming C.D, as more and more C.D's are coming out which divert from the classic shamanic drumming for core journeying, plus it is much easier to put the C.D on than trying to drum for myself when I am working on my own!
It was a powerful magical experience recording this C.D, from the very moment I started to drum I could hear, see my spirit teachers they where gathering around me bringing their input!! At one stage you could here "Crows" crowing then we heard a old man humming!! this was one of my spirit teachers coming in to help with the energy build up, this happened on the first track I recorded it was very powerful! so when you listen to the drumming you may hear them, this often happens with shamanic drumming.
The single drumming was recorded on my Red Dear skin drum, then on the double drumming track I recorded the Red Dear Skin again then I recorded my "all one tribe" drum made from goat skin, this was to give a different tone of beat so all the drumming was recorded individually and live!
You will find that I will drum three steady drum beats to signal that you are entering into "shamanic State of Consciousness" {ssc} then towards the end of the track you will hear the "call back" which is three sharp beats and very fast drumming this is to signal it is time to return to here the middle world.
Through my own experiences it is advisable to build up a relationship with the underworld fist to give you a solid foundation, to be able to journey to the upperworld in confidence and knowledge. The underworld is a place of power, knowledge, symbols, gods, faeries, power animals, ancestors, and dreamtime. What we do in the underworld will have a cause and effect in the middle world. Now we need to think about doing a journey and like all ritual work, preparation and intention is extremely important. You also need to think about where you are going to do your journey, preferably in a room where you will not be disturbed. It is important that you prepare the room you are going to work in: smudging or burning incense to clear and cleanse the room and closing the curtains so the room is dark. You will have to ensure that you have all what you need with you: Rattle, Drum, have a altar set up, stones, crystals smudge and any other tools you think you need.
3)Once you have prepared your room and the phone is off, and the pet is out and the family or partner will not disturb you!
Open your shaman’s circle by calling in the sacred directions of :
Have your rattle and your other tools close by you.
Start your drumming tape or signal to your drummer to start drumming, and begin your decent into your opening. Picture your rattle with you; in case you meet any obstacles or harmful creatures along the way, you can beat them out of your path. Try not to have this in your mind before you start your journey as it may affect your intent.
Explore the opening and the land you find yourself in after passing through. Remember the opening and its location so you can make your way back at the end of your journey. Be aware of the landscape, animals or anything else you may come into contact with> This is a chance for you to build on your relationship with whoever or whatever comes to guide you, mainly in the form of power animals. Remember to ask if they are your power animals and if not, ask them to take you to them. Always ask questions! If you get tired or start to drift, then make your way back to your opening, and signal to your drummer (if you need to) that you are coming back.
You will find that you may only journey for 10-15 minutes to begin with, but with time and practice you can build it up to 45 minutes.
When you come back, say your thanks to your animals who have been your guide and spend a few minutes to focus yourself in the here and now. Close your shaman’s circle and record your journey.
You need to spend time on this work, to build your relationship with your animals and associations with the Underworld. I cannot tell you what you will find or experience because everyone’s journey is different, along with his or her shamanism. I do advise that you write everything down, every little detail, as over time, everything will become clear as to its relevance. I cannot stress enough that you must take your time with this, as it is the core of your shamanic practice, being able to journey for others later on in your study you will depend upon how you have built upon the relationship with your helpers. This is an ongoing task and you will need to journey at least once a week to keep up your association with the Underworld, and as you gain experience and confidence, you will be able to adapt things to your needs.
Remember that the spirits guide and teach you, shamans have used this practice for 50,000 years! and this the best way to develop these links.
